Terms of use.

These terms cover the Citizenly app for iPhone and this website (citizenlyapp.co.uk). By using them you agree to these terms. Citizenly is made by Ajay Odedara (info@softwarechefs.com).

An independent study aid

Citizenly is an independent study app. It is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the UK Government, the Home Office or TSO. We are not a government service, we cannot book your test, and nothing here is legal or immigration advice. Always check GOV.UK for the current test rules, fees, booking and eligibility.

No guarantee

Our lessons and questions are written by us from the facts in the Life in the UK handbook (3rd edition). We work hard to keep them correct and up to date, but the handbook and the test can change and mistakes can happen. We can't promise that you will pass the real test, or that the questions match it. A good score here is a guide, not a promise.

Free to use

The app is free to download and the mock tests on our website are free. We don't currently offer in-app purchases or subscriptions. If that ever changes, we will show the price clearly before you pay.

Your licence to use the app

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app on Apple devices that you own or control, for your own study. Apple's standard Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement also applies and, for matters it covers, takes priority over these terms. Apple is not responsible for the app or for supporting it.

What you must not do

  • Copy, republish, resell or scrape our questions, explanations, lessons or design.
  • Use automated tools to collect content from the website or its mock tests, or to overload them.
  • Reverse engineer or modify the app, except where the law allows it.
  • Use the app or website to break the law or to harm others.

Notes you send us

When you send a note about a question, you let us use it to improve Citizenly. Please don't include personal information in it.

Our content and other people's

The app, website, questions, explanations and design belong to us or our licensors. The Life in the UK handbook is Crown copyright; we use the facts in it and write our own wording. Pictures in the lessons come from Wikimedia Commons and similar free sources under their own licences, listed under Image credits in the app. The optional natural read-aloud voice is an open-source model.

Availability and changes

We may update, change or stop the app or website, and we may update these terms. We will change the date above when we do. If you keep using Citizenly after a change, you accept the new terms.

Our responsibility

Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or your statutory consumer rights. Apart from that, we are not responsible for losses that come from relying on the study material, such as a failed test, test fees or a delayed application, or for losses we couldn't reasonably have foreseen.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts have jurisdiction, though if you are a consumer you keep any rights you have to use the courts where you live, including in Scotland or Northern Ireland.
